Ah April...what delights do you have in store for us? The freshness of spring, the last of the summer breeze? Both are at your disposal at this time of year. Let’s have a look at some of the best places to travel in April. Are any of your favourites listed?
1. Czech Republic
City Recommendation: Prague
Nomad Rating: 3.81/5
Castles, cathedrals and tales that stretch back through the ages. Prague is a wonder to behold during this time. As the warmth of spring melts the ice of a bitterly cold winter, the city comes alive with lots of spring and Easter themed events, making it one of the best places to travel in April. It’s entirely picturesque with so many different styles of architecture to look at, and you’re never far from an excellent beer or a nice warm bowl of stew and dumplings.
For digital nomads, it’s a European city so you won’t have to worry too hard about internet access. You can work from cafes if you like and there’s plenty of room; some of them actively encourage people to use them as a ‘home office’ which is nice. You can join a coworking space which is also great.
There’s a wide range of accommodation options so you can choose to have a little luxury or you can find something more budget conscious - perfect as the cost of living can be quite high here.
It’s sounding like a good vibe for any European based spring travel!

2. Italy
City Recommendation: Florence
Nomad List Rating: 2.82/5
I’m taking issue with the low-ish rating on NomadList here; Florence is one of my favourite places in the world. Her beauty is timeless and sophisticated. As far as cities go, Florence is pretty small, but still very grand. The sunsets are stunning, the gelato addictive, and the food is undisputed in its deliciousness.
The surrounding landscapes offer the best kind of contrast as well; think about the rolling Tuscan hills and medieval villas nestled in vineyards and olive groves. In the spring and summertime, it’s bliss. What makes it one of the best places to travel in April for me, is the moderate weather conditions - Florence quickly becomes an oven in the summer months.
For digital nomads, it is not the cheapest city; I’ll concede that Italy can be an expensive place to go. But it’s also totally worth it. The café scene is not the same as in other places - very few places are happy for you to set up shop and sit and work for a whole day. But you can find them.
There’s also a few coworking spaces around that are brilliant. TSH Collab is a short bus ride away from the city centre and the facilities are amazing; I’m talking rooftop pools with gorgeous views of the city, excellent WiFi and a brilliant atmosphere.

3. Mexico
City Recommendation: Mexico City
NomadList Rating: 3.58/5
Mexico City is a doll all year round but at this time of year, she’s extra pretty. So much here is a real attention grabber; the wonderful people, the stuff-it-in-your-gob-can-I-have-more-please food scene that we can never get enough of, the beautiful art that wraps around the walls and brightens anybody’s day. It's easy to put this place on the list as one of the best places to travel in April.
For you margarita lovers out there, ain’t nobody making ‘em better than the Mexicans. Pull all that together with the live music that permeates the air and the generally upbeat vibe, you’ve got yourself a winner of a city to visit in April.
For digital nomads looking for a budget-friendly option, you are not going to be disappointed. There are lots of places to work, internet access, on the whole, is pretty good and accommodation is reasonably priced. There’s a decent nomad community in this neck of the woods as well so if you’re solo travelling, you’ll be able to get connected pretty easily.
Overall, there are loads of cool things to do and see in a city with a culture that goes back to ancient Aztec civilisation. The weather’s especially great around this time, so you can be certain that you can maximise the exploration time you have to really enjoy this city’s full potential.

4. Japan
City Recommendation: Kyoto
NomadList Rating: 3.3/5
Oh Japan. The elegance of spring blossoms set in a backdrop of stunning Japanese architecture. A proud, beautiful and excellent culture that everybody should be able to appreciate at least once in their lives.
Kyoto in springtime is epic. If you’re planning to be in that part of the world, take full advantage and be sure to include Kyoto as one of the places you visit at this time of year. Immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of city life, and then marvel at the contrast of the peaceful quiet of the surrounding temples in the area. Be sure to see incredible light shows, mesmerising dances by the mysteriously captivating geishas and fall in love with fresh, utterly delicious Japanese cuisine.
From a digital nomad perspective, this again is a pricey place to live but there are workarounds if you don’t need a whole bunch of space. The internet access is brilliant so no worries on that front, and the Japanese are some of the most hardworking people out there; you’ll find plenty of places to be productive and get a ton of work done. It’s also important to note that people speaking English is not a given, so be ready to add another language to your repertoire.

5. Taiwan
City Recommendation: Taipei
NomadList Rating: 3.82/5
An Asian treasure trove with warm and welcoming people and an undeniable flair for technology and entrepreneurship. Taiwan is experiencing huge growth right now.
One of the higher ratings on NomadList, Taipei looks like it’s the perfect place for creatives to gather and do their best work. I’m only really interested in food and Taipei doesn’t disappoint. Food markets, restaurants...get me involved, I am absolutely ready for some of that deliciousness.
One of the many advantages of Taipei’s location is that a 30 minute subway ride will get you into forested countryside for a mini digital detox on a weekend. Sounds like bliss...
A 3 month visa is available on arrival which is great, and when you need to renew there are several options, like flying to Hong Kong for example (this may be subject to change). Coworking spaces and cafes are everywhere; a quick google search will help you out.
From what I gather there isn’t a super solid digital nomad community here...at the moment. There’s groups and networks operating in the space but there’s definitely more work to do on that front.
Having said that, you will be able to link in with other nomads when you arrive; the more people that want to be nomadic and live in this incredible city, the more dynamic this will become in the future. I’m sold, this place looks incredible if you’re looking for a wonderfully authentic experience.

6. Hawaii
City Recommendations: Honolulu
NomadList Rating: 3.05/5
Hawaii is giving us a taste of the tropics. Incredible beaches, tropical nature reserves, museums for Islamic and Polynesian art, beautiful reefs to explore and swimming with sharks? Don’t all volunteer at once for that last option…
Technically Hawaii still counts as being part of the United States, but it is an island so I’ve named it like it’s a country all on it’s own. Don’t come for me...it’s just how I feel.
For digital nomads, there’s no denying the beauty. The internet access is pretty hopping (yay!), it’s not overly crowded (yay!), the weather this time of year is just right (yay!), the nightlife looks pretty good (yay!) and it’s pretty safe (yay!).
Cost of living though…(boooo!) Hawaii is one of the most expensive places to live in the world. You thought Europe was pushing it...Honolulu is literally like “Can I be even more expensive? Ha, hold my beer…”.
NomadList predicts you’re looking at around $5000 a month to live; bit steep, but I don’t think that detracts from the fact that it’s a beautiful place to be. Volcanic hills, azure blue waters, fine sandy beaches...definitely worth the splurge I think.

7. Panama
City Recommendation: Bocas Del Toro
NomadList Rating: 3.05/5
Panama is giving us straight summer vibes in April. If you don’t want to be roughing it through the spring, skip it altogether and get yourself to Panama. It’s in the Caribbean, so all those good stereotypes about it being gorgeously easygoing and brilliantly balanced are true. Go surfing in the morning, do some work in the afternoon. Finish the day with a beachside stroll along the coast as the rhythm of the drums pulsates through the air, carried through by the summer breeze.
Alternatively, you can do an ATV tour through the wild jungle and get up close and personal with some of the most incredible wildlife. Monkeys, birds, and Simon the Sloth is always ready to say “Hello!”
Weather is a solid 32°C most of the time but you will be there just before the rainy season starts so there should be less of a humid feel. It’s more of a challenging location for digital nomads on the basis that the internet is not superfast - but it’s definitely workable. You may need some backup mifi devices but it should be fine.
It looks great...kind of rethinking my schedule now. Eurgh I can’t decide.

8. Peru
City Recommendation: Lima
NomadList Rating: 3.34/5
Raw adventure...city living...why pick one when you can have both? Lima, draws us back time and time again but it’s totally easy to see why. Firstly, Peruvian food...world class. Ceviche, get in my belly. Yummy beef dishes with rice...if you’ve never eaten Peruvian cuisine, find a Peruvian immediately to lead you from darkness to culinary enlightenment.
Secondly, you can live your most adventurous life in some of the most epic places in the world.
Colca Canyon anyone?
Don’t like hiking? Suit yourself. Go surfing instead; Lima is by the coastline that is absolutely perfect for all surfing enthusiasts. If like me, you don’t always care for either, then enjoy the city and get that tan looking sharp on the beach. Do a history tour to find out more about the wonderful archaeological sites in the region. In short, Peru has it all. At this time of year it won’t be super busy because you arrive before the main tourism rush begins.
For digital nomads, Lima’s a major city so you get all the trimmings that come with that. Half decent workable internet can be found in cafés and restaurants all over the place. Cost of living is great - this is a super affordable place to live.
I am giving myself such serious FOMO…
