The landscapes are iconic. The adventure potential?
Unlimited.
A vibrant, active city, with the warmth and familiarity of an old friend.
Cape Town’s superpower is her ability to draw you in time and time again; to show you new and undiscovered things as well as the things you know and love.
We’ve discussed in detail about another iconic WiFi Tribe chapter. Bolivia means the world to us as a community because of its raw, unapologetic call to do what we’ve never done, to see what we’ve never seen, and take risks in ways that exhilarate the soul.
Cape Town presents a totally different challenge. You’ll run through the whole spectrum of human emotion as beauty and pain come together - a living, breathing representation of the human experience.
It’s an experience like no other.
Our community have been hanging out in Cape Town for a long time. Here are some of the reasons why:
#1: It Gives You the Best of Both
“Cape Town is for people who enjoy the amenities of city life but feel drawn to majestic landscapes and the great outdoors. With Cape Town, you can have your cake and eat it too.” -David S.
Cape Town does a great job of pulling together the best of both worlds. You get the rustic, unpredictable feel of the great outdoors mixed with a Malibu-esque, beachy vibe with cool bars and beautiful homes on the coastline. You’ll want to stay forever as you quickly establish your own routine.
Work in the cafés, run to your yoga studio that looks out over the sea and then go for dinner in one of the amazing restaurants. If you love cooking, you’ll completely love how easy it is to get your hands on fresh, delicious ingredients. Living a healthy, and full lifestyle is a breeze here. Anywhere you cannot just walk to, is just an uber ride away.
You’ll settle into the rhythm of the city in a few short days and feel like you’ve always lived there.
Then you go on a drive to the Cape of Good Hope and see the penguins just chilling out along the way.
It’s home away from home.
#2: The History is Rich and Unfiltered
As a nation, South Africa’s emergence from the ashes is unparalleled in its ability to inspire. You can walk the same paths as civil rights legends who changed the face of a nation and threw off the shackles of oppression, sowing the seeds of fairness for all.
Robben Island stands as an opportunity to learn more about this very recent history. It was a truly humbling experience to hear from a survivor the tales of a world that is now difficult to fathom.
There’s no sugar-coating; being in Cape Town is an education all on its own, with lessons learnt that are not easily forgotten.
#3: We're Free.
Your chapter, your pace, your timeline. There truly is something for everyone.
Climb to the top of Table Mountain. Take a cable car instead. Hike the 3.5km up Signal Hill, or take a taxi with a picnic in hand and watch the sunset over the city at the top of Signal Hill. Rather than having to adjust to an external pace, you set it yourself. It’s the place to be if you value freedom; the freedom to do what you want, when you want to do it.
In addition to this, the local people are some of the best folks you’ll ever meet. With so many different backgrounds and cultures all coming together, you are in for the richest treat ever.
#4: The Adventures are Breathtaking
Stay in the city or pack up and get ready to leave. It’s completely your call.
PC: Steph Smith
If like Bilbo Baggins, you’re quite ready for another adventure, then plenty of them await you along the Western and Eastern Cape. ..and beyond, in fact. Beyond South Africa’s borders which already contain so much, you can explore neighbouring Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Julia’s tip is not to google Victoria Falls unless you are officially ready to book a flight.
David S. our much-beloved Tribe Member and friend had this to say about his ultimate weekend…
“Just shut up and fly to Port Elizabeth. Have dinner at Muse Restaurant where you will enjoy the best food in South Africa and pay dollars for a meal worth hundreds. Wake up the next morning and go on a freaking SAFARI. You ever heard of an elephant? Whatever. Go back to sleep. Dream about how much cuter warthogs are than you expected. Wake up! Go jump off of the Bloukrans Bridge, the highest bungee from a bridge in the world. Come back down to sea level, hop in a kayak, and explore miles and miles of maddeningly beautiful African coastline at Tsitsikamma National Park. Go back to Cape Town and die in your bed. Congratulations. You just had the best weekend trip of your life.” - David S.

If David’s version of a perfect weekend doesn’t tickle your fancy, why not stay close to the city? Paraglide off the top of Lion’s Head for a mind blowing view that’ll imprint itself on your brain forever. Walk along the beach with the Twelve Apostles Mountain range at your back and the unending water in front of you.
#5: The Food is Fine
…and so is the wine. The food scene in Cape Town is phenomenal. Tribe member Michelle W. shared her favourite eating spots with us but there are so many more to enjoy! Take the Franshhoek Wine Tram to taste some of the most incredible wines. Even if you don’t drink, the scenery is so beautiful, just that alone is enough.
If you don’t want to go out...Uber Eats is alive and kicking in Cape Town. Grab a takeaway, curl up in your pyjamas with your fellow Tribe members and chow down on all your favourite comfort food.
Also...weird discovery. The supermarket sushi is actually pretty good so try some and be pleasantly surprised. You heard it here first.

#6: There’s Always Something Going On
There is always something going on in Cape Town. Food markets, full moon hikes, street festivals, open-air concerts, beach yoga, summer parties, wine tastings, flea markets, digital nomad meet-ups, open bbq’s, fantastic nightlife.
How about a sunset ride on a pirate ship with your new-found Tribe members?
(Yeeeah that does actually exist and it is awesome!)
#7: It’s a Perfect Place to Travel with Others
There are lots of digital nomads that love and adore Cape Town, so you’ll never be far from meeting your next bestie. Down at the V&A Waterfront you’ll find great cafes and a really fantastic coworking space.
There always tends to be nomad events in town at really nice bars and clubs...in short, there’s always plenty of opportunities to meet new nomad folks, even as you get to enjoy hanging out with your fellow Tribers.
But Wait!
There are some safety considerations; this place is not for you if you enjoy wandering the streets alone at night. But with a little care and vigilance, we promise that you will have the time of your life. If you stay in Sea Point or Green Point, you'll be hard pressed to really feel any security challenges at all.
Uber’s are a really cheap and reliable way of getting from A to B so there’s not much need to walk anywhere by yourself.
So all that remains to ask is...
Are You Ready To Live Your Best Life?
South Africans are extremely proud of their nation, as they should be. It’s a beautiful land with beautiful people which is why we want to come back here, time and time again.
Whatever you decide to do, however you decide to get here...just get here.
We know that you won’t be disappointed.
