USING THIS LIST…
Please keep an open mind. I’ve seen some amazing positions in the most obscure places, so don’t think that because I’ve generically listed a job board as being great for customer service positions, you won’t find a developer job on there for example. But for me, its always about streamlining the process – if you can get that amazing position without going through the rigmarole of looking in all the wrong places, why waste time?
Some sites listed are super niche with the kinds of remote jobs they post and others cover a wide range of industries. Find what is appropriate for you and discard the rest.
If you run a job board and I’ve missed you out, get in touch please 😉
A LITTLE NOTE FOR FREELANCERS…
You’ll notice that this list won’t be focusing heavily on some of the very well known job boards known to all freelancers…
That is on purpose.
The reason for that is because generally if you want to do this sustainably, it’s best to focus your energy on finding gigs that will ask for high quality work and pay you accordingly. Places like Fiverr, Freelancer and Upwork are fantastic for starting out and building your skills and your portfolio. It’s also fair to say that you can actually find well paying gigs but on the whole, there’s more of the lower paid “Write a 2000 word article for $10 – don’t apply unless you’re happy with this rate.”
But applying for low paying remote jobs becomes a real time stealer with low rewards. So if you’re good at your craft and you know your worth, I’m gonna be an awful human and suggest that you target your job search elsewhere and not throw your best marketing pitch at a gig that will pay you $25.
You’ll also maybe notice that some of the old school job board titans have not made this list either. Places like Indeed and TotalJobs…they are wonderful in their own way, giants in the online job board space…but not always friendly for those of you out there looking for remote work.
To help you avoid the heartache of finding your perfect role and then discovering after reading the job listing that it’s only remote for 12 days out of every year, I’ve decided to leave them out of this post. We want all you potential remote workers and job seekers to find a remote company and leave your morning commute behind! Telecommuting to your home office is just the best.
Having said that, I’m not saying you can’t find remote jobs on these boards; I implore you to leave no stone unturned. You just may have to search dozens of job sites looking for potential employers that are cool with remote employees. However…read the small print.
Let’s get to it!
JustRemote
Best for: Developers, Marketing Roles, Designers, Managers
Part time or Full time Work: Both
Exclusively remote jobs: Yes
Fee to Access Jobs: No
Experience Level: From Junior upwards
Okay so JustRemote set up shop last year and they’ve been going from strength to strength. What I love about this website is the design and how straightforward it is for you to see jobs in your chosen field. You land and there’s no messing about – everything is already categorised and ready to go. All the jobs are remote. So there’s no small print that looks like “You will be required to be in the office 4 days a week with the option to work from home 1 day a week.” Nuh-uh.
The major categories on there include jobs for developers, marketers, designers, and managers so take your pick. Jobs are added daily so keep checking back.

Best for: All remote positions in startups
Part time or Full time Work: Both
Exclusively remote jobs: No
Fee to Access Jobs: No
Experience Level: From Junior upwards
The place to go if you want to work for a startup. Set up your profile and apply to thousands of exciting jobs across the globe. A good chunk of these are remote as well although I think there are location specific jobs as well. I’d argue that it’s a more refined version of the LinkedIn platform when it comes to applying for remote work. Check it out and spend a good chunk of time getting your profile looking sharp.
Outsourcely
Best for: Jobs in startup companies
Part time or Full time Work: Both
Exclusively remote jobs: Yes
Fee to Access Jobs: Yes
Experience Level: From Junior upwards
This job board does have lots of fresh jobs on it which is good, but it looks like you do have really check out the job details well. By that I mean that some people advertising on there put a lot of effort into explaining what they need and other people literally give no detail at all. So take the rough with smooth but there’s definitely potential to find great positions here across all the major industries.
Contena
Best for: Writers
Part time or Full time Work: Both
Exclusively remote jobs: Yes
Fee to Access Jobs: Yes
Experience Level: All levels
This job board is exclusively for those folks who want to write for a living. There is a little bit of controversy around Contena and people have various opinions around whether it is worth the cost. You do have to pay a fee to access the jobs available but in return you get loads of courses, and a platform that helps you to build your writing portfolio. The jobs on there look pretty good and it looks like they pay well but I haven’t paid for full access to the platform so I can’t completely vouch for that. I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether or not it’s worth paying for…it’s definitely a great vehicle if you want to streamline the process into writing full time.
Remoteok
Best for: All remote positions
Part time or Full time Work: Both
Exclusively remote jobs: Yes
Fee to Access Jobs: No
Experience Level: From Junior upwards
This is one of the job boards that’s been around a good long while. I like the way the job ads have keywords attached to them – so it’ll say a position like ‘Content Manager’, and then it’ll have keywords like PPC, GoogleAds and Content Strategy. This let’s you know immediately if the role falls into your experience. The downside of this job board, is sifting through the really old job postings; there’s stuff up there from 6 months ago… It’s not a deal breaker by any means but it can be a bit frustrating.

Flexjobs
Best for: Everything
Part time or Full time Work: Both
Exclusively remote jobs: No
Fee to Access Jobs: Yes
Experience Level: From Junior upwards
FlexJobs in my opinion is one of my favourite job boards – the breadth of positions and the overall commitment to flexible working that fits you, is definitely something we can get on board with. There are fully remote jobs, part time gigs and other flexible jobs so be sure to filter to get the exclusively remote jobs. This is another job board like Contena where you can invest in paying to get access to the jobs on there. They do have a money back guarantee as well so if you try it and you’re unimpressed then you can vote with your feet and get your investment back. Again, it’s up to you to decide whether you are happy to pay for the flexjobs service but it looks pretty good.
Stack Overflow

Mike’s Remote List
Best for: All remote positions
Part time or Full time Work: Both
Exclusively remote jobs: Yes but some are location specific
Fee to Access Jobs: No
Experience Level: From Junior upwards
Found this little gem whilst I was researching for this article – it’s a tool that curates a list of vacancies directly from company websites. This is perfect for grabbing those positions that don’t find their way onto the usual channels.
It’s not the most beautiful website, don’t get me wrong. But it does the important task of centralising everything so you don’t have to be trawling a million different company websites for your remote job. Very smart.
