Florianópolis
brazil
Mar 18 - Apr 15, 2022
Lovingly nicknamed "Floripa", Florianópolis is a little slice of paradise that's off the beaten path just enough. It's an island for risk takers: we'll conquer the lush hills to reach secluded coves, sharpen our surfing skills, harness the wind to try kiteboarding or paragliding, and taste oysters straight out of the water. In between pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones, we'll find moments to take it all in. With sea swims before and after work, a laidback local culture, and plenty of beachside sunsets to marvel at, this Chapter will fill our souls to the brim. They say there's a reason Florianópolis is called "Ilha da Magia” (Magic Island), it charms everyone who sets foot there.
Experience Floripa with the Tribe
Take on Florianópolis with the Tribe and discover a new side to this beach town. Open your mind to the cocreated community experiences, adventures, and classic WiFi Tribe moments that'll make our time here one of a kind.
Find more beaches than we know what to do with
In Floripa, choosing which beach to explore will be our only difficult decision of the month. During the week, we'll walk 10 minutes to Praia Moçambique to catch the day's last rays after work. On the weekends, we'll hit the harder to reach spots. We'll hike through the jungle and over hills to reach Lagoinha do Leste, Praia do Matadeiro, and the many other secluded beaches hidden along the coastline. For days where the swells are big, we'll head to Praia Mole with our surfboards and refuel at a beachside restaurant. No matter where we sink our toes in the sand, gorgeous views, warm water, and relaxation will follow.
Let's lose ourselves in paradise
Wash ashore an empty island with idyllic calm seas, lush jungled hills, and a cove of white sand and discover Ilha do Campeche. The island is reachable by boat and is just a 10 min boat ride from Floripa's coast. Though only 800 people a day are able to visit, so make sure to chat details during a Tribal Tuesday to catch this island beauty.
Water sports galore await us
Beaches and lagoons across the island have unique water and wind conditions to make our water sport dreams come true. Between paragliding, surfing, boating, snorkeling, diving, fishing, swimming, kitesurfing, and paddle boarding, there's no shortage of opportunities to get our hearts racing. All we have to do is grab our gear and go.
Dig into the beachside dining
Being surrounded by the ocean has many perks, but the tastiest one probably has to be the amount of fresh seafood at our fingertips. Think fresh fish, shrimp, oysters, octopus, and crab anyway you like it: grilled, fried, in stews, or freshly caught hours before. When getting out of your bathing suit sounds like a chore, stay in our neighborhood, Barra da Lagoa, for local spots right on the beach. Or head to Jurerê to go upscale, these restaurants and resorts cater to those with bigger budgets.
Meet the Chapter Host
Shelby
Shelby is originally from Ohio but has been finishing her doctorate at UCLA while living in LA. As if she wasn't busy enough, she also runs an educational subscription box for kids who want to learn about social justice.
The often repeated sentiment about Shelby is that she truly cares. She's always up for a chat, to lend a hand to help, and will find ways to make a Chapter the most memorable experience for everyone.

Highlights
Our coliving home is in Barra da Lagoa, an old fisherman's town turned local neighborhood with Praia Moçambique and natural pools just a 10 min walk away.
We're staying in an inn that has lots of vintage decor throughout the space. There's a backyard pool and BBQ, an outdoor furnished terrace, and a communal dining and living room that's perfect for work, relaxing, and Tribal Tuesdays. There's also a small kitchen with a stove and oven to prepare our own meals.
The property primarily has private rooms available, but every room has an ensuite bathroom, A/C, and a closet or dresser.
Good to Know
Our coliving home is within walking distance to a local supermarket and many smaller markets. The majority of cafes and dedicated coworking spaces are found in Lagoa.
Traffic in Floripa can be congested as the island has few major roads, so cabs and public buses can take more time at peak hours. Consider renting a motorized scooter to get around more efficiently.
