Lovingly nicknamed "Floripa", Florianópolis is a little slice of paradise that's off the beaten path just enough. It's an island for risk takers: We'll conquer hills to reach secluded coves, sharpen our surfing skills, harness the wind to try kiteboarding or paragliding, and taste oysters straight out of the water. In between pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones, we'll find moments to take it all in. With sea swims before and after work, a laidback local culture yet buzzing nightlife on-island, and plenty of beachside sunsets to marvel at, this Chapter will fill our souls to the brim. They say there's a reason Florianópolis is called "Ilha da Magia” (Magic Island) - it charms everyone who sets foot there.

"The people in the Tribe are incredible, amazing lifelong friends - they are the community I was missing while being a digital nomad." - Wade Rosa

"Everyone on chapter is incredibly unique, all coming from such different walks of life, but all finding common ground among traveling with a community of like-minded people. We have jokesters, writers, music lovers, and fashion lovers, and FOMO is a commonality among us! We're all open to each other, to travel, and to any experiences and because we have no expectations, we're able to experience everything that came our way with a big smile." - Victoria Caruso

"Being surrounded by many professionals in different areas, which gives you an understanding of different fields, is one part of the chapter I enjoyed the most. From waking up and having people to chat with, to the weekend adventures, playing cards, and building relationships, I have to say it all fits together perfectly." - Wade Rosa

Experience Brazil with the Tribe

Take on Florianópolis and discover this gorgeous country with the Tribe. Join our co-created community experiences, adventures, and classic WiFi Tribe moments that'll make our time here one of a kind.

1. Explore all of the Beaches

Florianópolis is famous for its 42 beaches. During the week, don’t miss surfing-heaven Joaquina or Campeche for more relaxed vibes. And on weekends, hit those harder-to-reach, more secluded spots like Lagoinha do Leste and Praia do Matadeiro. Just to name 10% of the options available.

2. Get Lost in Paradise

Wash ashore an empty island with idyllic calm seas, lush jungled hills, and a cove of white sand and discover Ilha do Campeche. The island is reachable by boat and is just a 10 min boat ride from Floripa's coast. Though only 800 people a day are able to visit, so make sure to chat details during a Tribal Tuesday to catch this island beauty.

3. Watersports Galore

Beaches and lagoons across the island have unique water and wind conditions to make our water sport dreams come true: think paragliding, surfing, boating, snorkeling, diving, fishing, swimming, kitesurfing, and paddle boarding.

4. Beachside Dining at its Finest

Being surrounded by the ocean has many perks, but the tastiest one is the amount of fresh seafood at our fingertips. Fresh fish, shrimp, oysters, octopus, and crab any way you like it: grilled, fried, in stews, or freshly caught hours before.

5. Surf's Up

Whether you're a beginner or looking to improve your skills, Florianópolis is a great place to take surfing lessons with friends. The island's diverse beaches offer waves for all levels, and local instructors are keen to share their love of the sport along with insider tips on the best surf spots.

6. Day Trip to Ribeirão da Ilha

Explore this traditional Azorean village, known for its oyster farms. Enjoy fresh oysters and explore the quaint streets. Besides its culinary delights, the area offers picturesque views of the sunset over the bay, making it a perfect spot for an evening stroll.

Eat Your Heart Out

There's a lot more to the local cuisine than chicken and rice - promise! Don't miss out on these two tasty treats.

Brigadeiro

Brigadeiro, a rich, truffle-like confection, is a staple at Brazilian festivities, first crafted in the 1940s using simple ingredients like butter, cocoa, and condensed milk. Born from necessity during a sweet shortage and popularized during a presidential campaign, these chocolate balls have evolved into a gourmet treat available in various flavors such as almond and coffee.

Pavé

Cachorro quente, Brazil's take on the hot dog, transforms a simple bread roll into a flavorful feast with fillings of sausage links and ground beef cooked in a chunky tomato sauce with green peppers and onions, all smothered in melted cheese. Each region in Brazil brings its twist, serving it with toppings ranging from mashed potatoes and grated carrots to fries and pico de gallo.

Good to Know

Traffic in Floripa can be congested as the island has few major roads, so cabs and public buses can take more time at peak hours. Consider renting a scooter to get around more efficiently.

Florianópolis has a temperate oceanic climate with mild winters and warm, humid summers. It's worth noting that while the beach days are glorious, the city also experiences its fair share of rain throughout the year.

As you may have already read in the Slack community channel #chitchat, Brazil will now require visas for Citizens of the US, Australia, and Canada as of April 10, 2024.

According to Brazilian authorities, the processing time for the new e-visa will be up to five business days. However, “we strongly recommend that you apply for your e-visa two months before your travel to Brazil."

What classifies as a room upgrade?

We have three amenities categories we look at when selecting the upgrade rooms:

  • Functionality: desk, chair, kitchen, ensuite bathroom, privacy, AC, kitchenette or kitchen, fridge, walk-in closet or extra storage space etc.
  • How it looks: balcony, terrace, views, size of room, size of bed, windows/natural light, decor, living room or seating area, couch, coffee table, mirror etc.
  • Mixed: When possible, the room shares some of both of the above.
  • Securing the upgrade guarantees that you get the amenities you've paid for.
  • Upgrades that have not been secured will be assigned to members based on a number of different factors by the host (order of booking, circle level, etc.)
  • If all rooms have a particular amenity such as AC we do not offer upgrades for that particular
