Get ready for another Aussie Adventure; we’re heading to Yamba, a gorgeous coastal gem in New South Wales where the Clarence River meanders around the small town, a marine park brims with aquatic life, and national parks and wilderness reserves promise plenty of outdoor adventures!
Famous for its blissful beaches and natural scenery, Yamba is perfect for weeks filled with productive workdays, and weekends spent exploring Australia's incredible east coast. Yamba has the quintessential laid-back Australian surf-town charm: the vibes are super chill, locals are friendly, and after a month, you’ll be greeting everyone by name!
New to WiFi Tribe? A Chapter is a month of co-living & co-working with 15-25 remote professionals and entrepreneurs. You'll arrive in a new city with an instant community of inspiring, like-minded friends to do life with (deep work on weekdays, daily hangouts, shared dinners, big adventures on weekends). Your social life is an automatic 10/10, but you choose your pace and set your schedule. And by the end, you'll leave with friends you keep traveling with for years.
Everything is co-created – NOT a tour group, a community. Most members are seasoned solo travellers who want a more connected, fun and meaningful global lifestyle – a social life that travels with them. Everyone is values-vetted (only 17% of applicants are accepted) to make sure you'll find your kind of people here. Our vibes: be kind, be bold, stay humble.
“The best thing about WiFi Tribe for me has been making deep, lasting connections while traveling, which is so different from my solo trips. I also discovered I absolutely love the co-living lifestyle. I was honestly surprised by how consistently awesome and welcoming everyone is in every chapter. The people are just so respectful and curious. If you're thinking about joining, just do it. It's so much better than you can imagine, and you really have to experience it to understand.” - Thierry, Triber
During the week, we’ll tear through our to-do lists, making room in our weekend agendas for all of our adventures! When we’re not working, we’ll spend our time strolling through markets, visiting art galleries, swimming in the cool freshwater Angourie pools, soaking up the sun or surfing at one of the many beaches, and crushing music bingo at Jacko’s Bar.
On weekends, we'll venture further into NSW and Queensland, seeing more of the incredible East Coast of Australia. We'll hike through the Australian wilderness and search for more beautiful beaches to explore. Road trips north take us to Byron Bay, the Gold Coast, and Noosa's stunning Sunshine Coast, while heading south, Coffs Harbour is the perfect day trip.
Experience Yamba with the Tribe
We're heading to Yamba for the very first time, and this hidden Aussie gem is about to become our new obsession! We'll be living the small-town Aussie coastal life that most tourists never experience, spending a month kicking back in a proper laid-back surf town with pristine beaches.
1. Go Beach Hopping
We have so many incredible beaches close by! From daily strolls to swim sessions, take your pick between Pippi, Main, Convent, Whiting, and Yamba Beach.
2. Hit the Surf
A protected reserve with several challenging breaks, Angourie Point is a favourite spot for serious surfers, while beginners can learn at Main and Spookies Beach.
3. Escape into Nature
With the Yuraygir National Park close by, we'll have no shortage of outdoor activities like camping, fishing, surfing, or hiking the multi-day Yuraygir Coastal Walk.
4. Indulge in Epic Seafood BBQs
Yamba is famous for its seafood, especially its prawns! We'll grab fresh catches straight from the boats, fire up the BBQ, and have an epic Tribe dinner!
5. Kayak Along the Clarence River
A perfectly chill afternoon means picking up a paddle and cruising through the waterways. We’ll (hopefully!) spot dolphins and maybe even turtles along the estuary!
6. Take a Road Trip to the Gold Coast
Only two hours north, the Gold Coast is paradise for surfers and theme park fans, plus the nightlife scene here is epic—a great break from our small town paradise!
7. Hang Out in Byron Bay
About an hour away, Byron Bay is prime for a chill weekender! We'll hike, explore hippie markets, feast at incredible cafes, and soak up that famous Byron magic.
8. Take a Day Trip to Coffs Harbour
Just 1.5 hours south, Coffs Harbour offers a different coastal vibe. We'll hit up the beaches, spot dolphins at the marina, and check out the iconic Big Banana.

Highlights
We're calling Yamba home for a month-long Chapter so get ready for the ultimate chill Australian surf town experience!
This small coastal gem in northern NSW is the perfect antidote to hustle culture: think sunrise beach dips, local markets, uncrowded beaches, cute cafés, and Aussie "barbies" in the garden!
We'll be taking it easy during the week with productive work sessions and beach hangs, then on weekends, we'll explore more of the incredible East Coast on epic road trips and weekend missions.
Our coliving homes are to die for! We're taking over four incredible properties; boutique homes styled with a nostalgic surf-shack feel; all within an eight-minute walk from each other. This is the ideal setup for Tribers that want a slower, more grounded, community-first vibe.
Each coliving home includes spacious bedrooms, modern amenities, fully-equipped kitchens, and loads of options for hanging out. Each property is unique, but generally, expect open-plan living areas, gorgeous gardens, ocean-view terraces, and BBQ setups ready for sunset cook-outs!
None of the bedrooms have A/C, but honestly, April-May autumn weather in Yamba is perfect, with warm days (20-25°C/68-77°F) and cool evenings. You'll be cool as a cucumber, even without the A/C.
Our location is brilliant. We're close to Yamba's stunning beaches (Main Beach, Pippi, Convent Beach all nearby!), and only 1-2 hours from bigger adventures in Byron Bay and the Gold Coast.
The vibe in Yamba is all about outdoor living and leading a healthy lifestyle. There’s an awesome farmers' market that takes place on Wednesday mornings near the beach that sells fresh produce, great coffee, and sometimes, there’s live music. We’ve got to check this out!
Good to Know
Yamba is a very chilled and laid-back town with a really small population. You’re not going to find a vibrant club or nightlife scene here, but rather more pubs, bars, and restaurants.
This Chapter is best suited to someone who wants to stay in a relaxing and restful coliving home, where nature is easily accessible. We can always plan to head to one of the big cities on weekend trips, but for the week, we’ll be kicking it chilled in our little town.
The cost of living in Yamba is way more reasonable than in a large city like Sydney or Melbourne; still, items can be high-priced, especially alcohol.
We’ll be in town during the Autumn months, where daytime temperatures will be around 20-25°C (68-77°F), with cooler evenings. There is a chance of autumn showers, so bring a light rain jacket in case.
The Australian sun is brutal. Do not skip the sunblock and bring a hat. “Slip, slop, slap, mate.”
Whale season runs from May to November, and since we're there in late April through May, we're right at the beginning! While it's still early in the migration, there's a chance we may spot the first humpback arrivals in late May. If we do decide to spend a day whale watching, there are several boat tours that we could do, or we can watch from the headlands (elevated rocky outcrops along the coast) with coffee in hand!
Yamba has everything we’ll need, like supermarkets, cafes, basic shops, and a medical center. If we need to visit larger shopping complexes for any reason, Grafton or Ballina are 30-45 minutes away by car.
While the town of Yamba is walkable, we’ll likely hire a couple of cars for exploring beaches further away and for road trips.

Closest airport: There are a couple of options for reaching Yamba. Note; there are no airports in Yamba itself, so a road transfer would be required.
Ballina Byron Gateway Airport (BNK). This airport is 45 minutes by car from Yamba. This is a small airport that only handles domestic flights to cities within Australia; it's ideal if you’re already in Australia.
Brisbane Airport (BNE). This international hub will have loads of international flight options. From here, you could either catch a domestic flight to Ballina Byron Gateway Airport (BNK) or rent a car and drive to Yamba. If the latter, drive time would be around 2-2.5 hours to Yamba.
Gold Coast Airport (OOL). This airport is 1.5-2 hours by car from Yamba. This airport offers more flight options, both domestic and international.
Sydney Airport (SYD). Sydney International is also a major international hub, but it's a 7-8-hour drive from Yamba, so we'd only recommend this if you're planning to spend time in Sydney first before heading to Yamba, and are happy with a lengthy road transfer.
Our recommendation:
- Already in Australia? Fly into Ballina Byron Gateway Airport (BNK) (closest!)
- Coming internationally? Fly into Brisbane Airport (BNE), then either connect to Ballina or rent a car for the 2.5-hour drive
- Want more flight flexibility? Gold Coast Airport (OOL) has good international/domestic options and is still reasonably close
