We have another Chapter first because you Made It Happen!, and this time we're heading to the beach town of Golem, Albania. Golem is a remote, off-the-beaten-path destination just 25 minutes away from Durrës, Albania. If you're looking to spend a month in Southeastern Europe before the start of the high tourist season between July and August, this is your chance! By May, the sun is already warm but the town is a little more tranquil and local making this an ideal time to settle in. Whether you’re chilling on one of the many beaches, exploring ancient ruins, savouring local delicacies, or unwinding on the beach boardwalk, Golem is the perfect blend of work and leisure, making it a top-notch Chapter destination.

Some of these images are from a Montenegro chapter in 2021. The Tribe went on a weekend trip to Albania and absolutely raved about it! Another reason why we made it happen for you!

Experience Albania with the Tribe

Take on Albania with the Tribe and discover this still-secret gem of a country. Join our co-created community experiences, adventures, and classic WiFi Tribe moments that'll make our time here one of a kind.

1. Beach It up in Golem and Durrës

Durrës is nicknamed the "Miami" of Albania and has an epic beach life culture. While smaller than Durrës, Golem's beach town vibes are filled with fine, golden sand beaches with shallow waters, making them ideal for water sports, and beach activities.

2. Visit Apollonia Archaeological Park

Apollonia was once a prominent ancient Greek city in Illyria, founded in 588 BCE. The city was named in honor of the god Apollo and became a vital trading post and cultural center in the region. Apollonia Archaeological Park is a one-hour drive for Golem.

3. Divjakë-Karavasta National Park

This park is famous for its biodiversity, including the Karavasta Lagoon, home to the rare Dalmatian pelican. It's perfect for nature lovers and bird watchers or anyone who needs a day of peace and quit.

4. Day Trip to Krujë

Famous for its historic castle, the Skanderbeg Museum, and the old bazaar, Krujë offers a glimpse into Albanian history and culture. It's a perfect spot for history enthusiasts.

5. Visit Tirana

Tirana, the capital of Albania, is a lively blend of history and modernity, characterized by its colorful buildings, rich history, and bustling street life.

6. Lake Bovilla

Experience the serene beauty of Lake Bovilla. It's a perfect spot for hiking, picnicking, and enjoying panoramic views of the lake and its surrounding landscapes.

7. One for the foodies!

Become a street food expert for the month and get your hands on Albania's soul food - Byrek! This traditional dish has become a well-known street food for an on-the-go snack and, if you find the right vendor, this can be one of the cheapest ways to taste the local foods. Be sure to look out for fruit stalls while you wander the town. Strawberries, cherries, apricots and plums will be in full season and you can find reasonably priced options as you walk around.

What classifies as a room upgrade?

We have three amenities categories we look at when selecting the upgrade rooms:

  • Functionality: desk, chair, kitchen, ensuite bathroom, privacy, AC, kitchenette or kitchen, fridge, walk-in closet or extra storage space etc.
  • How it looks: balcony, terrace, views, size of room, size of bed, windows/natural light, decor, living room or seating area, couch, coffee table, mirror etc.
  • Mixed: When possible, the room shares some of both of the above.
  • Securing the upgrade guarantees that you get the amenities you've paid for.
  • Upgrades that have not been secured will be assigned to members based on a number of different factors by the host (order of booking, circle level, etc.)
  • If all rooms have a particular amenity such as AC we do not offer upgrades for that particular
