With over 100 white sand beaches, crystal clear water and "year-round sunshine", Ubatuba is famously known as Brazil's surfing capital. But there's so much more to be explored - from ancient waterfalls to lush tropical jungle - São Paulo's sun-kissed coastline and the rugged peaks of the Serra do Mar will form the perfect backdrop for this beach-y Chapter!

Experience Brazil with the Tribe

Outdoor-sy | Beach location | Adventurous | Remote

Take on Brazil and discover this gorgeous country with the Tribe. Join our co-created community experiences, adventures, and classic WiFi Tribe moments that'll make our time here one of a kind.

1. Beach Hopping

From secluded coves to expansive shores with strong waves, there's a beach for everyone. Don't miss Praia do Cruzeiro for its boardwalk and lighthouse, or the tucked away Praia do Tenório with its flat white sands. (Both are close to our villas).

2. Surf's Up

Ubatuba is known as the surf capital of São Paulo State. Praia Grande and Itamambuca are great for both beginners and experienced surfers, with surf schools available for lessons. You'll be living your best "beach like Ken" moment!

3. Yes, There's a Theme - Water

The clear waters of Ubatuba are perfect for scuba diving, boat trips, kayaking and SUPing - you name the water sport, Ubatuba's got it on offer.

4. Hiking in the Atlantic Forest

Explore the trails leading to remote waterfalls and - yes, it's possible - even more beaches. The Trilha das 7 Praias offers stunning views and secluded beaches.

5. Visit the Tamar Project

Learn about sea turtle conservation at the Tamar Project, which focuses on protecting sea turtles along the Brazilian coast.

6. Waterfall Tours

Discover the area's many waterfalls, like Cachoeira da Escada, which are set in beautiful tropical forest settings, perfect for cooling off after a hike.

7. Weekend Trip to Iguazu Falls

Brazil is a giant country, meaning some worthwhile trips require us to hop on a plane - Iguazu Falls, the largest waterfall system in the world, is one that's worth it! Located on the border of Argentina and Brazil, they make up the largest waterfall system in the world.

8. Enjoy Fruits You Won't Find Anywhere Else

Siriguela is just one of the myriad of different fruits that don't exist or aren't consumed in any other part of the world. Satisfy your sweet tooth by trying out all of the flavorful, healthy Brazilian fruit while you can! Speaking of Brazilian food...

Eat Your Heart Out

There's so much more to the local cuisine than chicken and rice - trust us!

Acai

Take acai, for example. You've heard of this superfood all around the world - but only in Brazil is it actually fresh off the tree and not frozen for transport.

Pão de Queijo

Our very own Gaby says: "Pão de queijo is not just little cheesy dough balls, it's the Food of the Gods! They melt in your mouth with all the cheesy goodness of life (and they are gluten-free because they are made with tapioca flour and baked, so technically good for you too)." 😉

Caipirinhas

Caipirinhas are a Brazilian staple. They're impossible to resist and dangerously easy to drink! We reckon a Tribal Tuesday Caipis Competition will go down a treat! 🍹

Picanha

Brazil is one of the biggest meat producers in the world. Ever come across Churrasco restaurants? They're all-you-can-eat meat buffets found in Brazil. Then there's Picanha, a popular - unmissable - Brazilian beef steak.

Brazil Unfiltered - 2023 with the Tribe

We have never been to Ubatuba, but here's what the Tribe loved about the chapter in Pipa, Brazil:

"Sitting at the secret beach and sharing our past, fears, and how we deal with them."
"Watching a sunset at the dune after a horseback ride and collectively appreciating the moment."
"Going paragliding with two Tribers and getting inspired to learn it myself."
"Hearing the appreciation after organizing a trip." - Fellow Triber

Highlights

We have 2 stunning homes (mansion villas) with wonderful views and 5 min walk from each other. One is a three-story villa with breath-taking 270 degree views over a cliff. The other also offers phenomenal views and beach access. Both homes are surrounded by forest and nature.

Both villas offer comfortable living and dining rooms. Between the two of them, we'll also have access to a kitchen, washer and dryer, pool and pool loungers, outdoor furnished terraces with hammocks, pool and ping-pong table, barbecue, and gardens.

Being far from São Paulo's city centre (see Good To Know) means we're settling in one of the last unspoilt destinations in Brazil for the month. Stunning beaches, spectacular nature, a welcoming local community and good wifi make it the perfect location for anyone needing a focused yet adventurous Chapter.

Good to Know

It's a long bus ride from the closest airport BUT both villas are a 15-minute drive from Ubatuba's centre where you can find supermarkets, restaurants and cafes.

In November/December, Ubatuba shifts from spring to early summer, with gradually warmer and more humid weather. Temperatures typically range from around 17°C (63°F) to approximately 28°C (82°F).

Not all rooms have AC, but if there is no AC there will be a ceiling fan.

we're 500m away from Praia Vermelha (Red Beach) and there are buses to nearby villages and beaches, but to find secret beaches and make our way to surf spots we'll maximise this Chapter experience with a car.

Heads up!! If you're diving into Portuguese during your trip, watch out for this: "pão" means bread 🍞, while "pau" means stick (with a sexual connotation) 🤐.

Reignite Your Work

Realize your goals and dreams knowing you have the world's best cheerleaders in your corner.

I joined the Tribe because I wanted to have a community while travelling, and it exceeded expectations. Arriving in a new country alone can be daunting, but within a couple days of the chapter starting it felt like I was in a group of friends and by the end we felt more like family. The chance of being thrown into any random group of 25 people and everyone getting along is close to zero, but it seems to work every time with the Tribe. The care with which the community is built means that everyone you meet shares common values. Joining a chapter in a small town meant that over the month the people around us became more familiar, whether it was the local restaurant or the parking attendant, and it was nice to connect with them and the other travellers. Working with the Tribe is also easy - there were great places to work, and I'm better able to concentrate when working with others than when I'm alone. -  Morgan McKenzie

What classifies as a room upgrade?

We have three amenities categories we look at when selecting the upgrade rooms:

  • Functionality: desk, chair, kitchen, ensuite bathroom, privacy, AC, kitchenette or kitchen, fridge, walk-in closet or extra storage space etc.
  • How it looks: balcony, terrace, views, size of room, size of bed, windows/natural light, decor, living room or seating area, couch, coffee table, mirror etc.
  • Mixed: When possible, the room shares some of both of the above.
  • Securing the upgrade guarantees that you get the amenities you've paid for.
  • Upgrades that have not been secured will be assigned to members based on a number of different factors by the host (order of booking, circle level, etc.)
  • If all rooms have a particular amenity such as AC we do not offer upgrades for that particular
