Zanzibar
Tanzania
October 16 - November 14, 2026
We're heading to Zanzibar for the first time, calling East Africa's island jewel home for a month! We're in Zanzibar at the best time of year, where sunny days and minimal rain mean loads of time outdoors! Get ready for a month of productive work sprints, cultural exploration, awesome adventures, and plenty of time luxuriating on some of the world's most beautiful beaches.
Sea, sun, and history come together in this epic destination! Zanzibar, sitting off Tanzania's coast in the Indian Ocean, is also known as the "Spice Island" and has plenty to explore, from ancient streets and vibrant spice markets to divine cuisine, pristine beaches, and incredible coral reefs. Zanzibar has soul, history, and natural beauty that'll keep you mesmerized all month long.
New to WiFi Tribe? A Chapter is a month of co-living & co-working with 15-25 remote professionals and entrepreneurs. You'll arrive in a new city with an instant community of inspiring, like-minded friends to do life with (deep work on weekdays, daily hangouts, shared dinners, big adventures on weekends). Your social life is an automatic 10/10, but you choose your pace and set your schedule. And by the end, you'll leave with friends you keep traveling with for years.
Everything is co-created – NOT a tour group, a community. Most members are seasoned solo travellers who want a more connected, fun and meaningful global lifestyle – a social life that travels with them. Everyone is values-vetted (only 17% of applicants are accepted) to make sure you'll find your kind of people here. Our vibes: be kind, be bold, stay humble.
"WiFi Tribe feels like we've hacked the best of both worlds: freedom without isolation, adventure without rootlessness. I'm grateful for this community." - Brooke, Triber
During the week, between work sprints, we'll explore more of Zanzibar and sneak in quick trips to nearby beaches for daily swims and sunset sessions. We'll be taking cooking classes to learn Swahili dishes, eat delectable fresh seafood, and plan our weekends for trips to Stone Town, Prison Island, the spice plantations, and more!
Weekend trips take us to even more exotic locations! We'll visit Paje or Jambiani on the east coast for proper downtime (kitesurfers will be in heaven with those consistent winds!), explore Jozani Forest and spy on the endemic rare red colobus monkeys, go snorkelling in Mnemba Island, and maybe even jet off for a Big Five safari in the Serengeti or Ngorongoro Crater!
Experience Zanzibar with the Tribe
We're bringing WiFi Tribe to Zanzibar for the very first time! Get ready for a month of pristine white sand beaches, snorkeling with turtles, exploring ancient Stone Town's labyrinth of streets, sailing on traditional dhow boats at sunset, and discovering Africa's most magical island paradise!
1. Explore Stone Town
We'll wander through the historic labyrinth of Stone Town's narrow streets, exploring the Old Fort, Freddie Mercury's childhood home, and the vibrant spice markets.
2. Tour the Famous Spice Plantations
Zanzibar, aka "Spice Island," has plenty of spice farms. We'll see vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg growing right before our eyes and learn how these spices shaped the island's history.
3. Plan Beach Days and Go Kitesurfing
Nungwi and Kendwa in the north are perfect for chilling, while kitesurfers will head Paje or Jambiani on the east coast where consistent winds make it kitesurfing paradise.
4. Hang Out With Giant Tortoises
A perfect half-day adventure, we're hopping on boats to Changuu Island (aka Prison Island) to meet the ancient Aldabra giant tortoises (some are over 100 years old)!
5. Enjoy a Boat Day in a Traditional Dhow
The Safari Blue tour is legendary! We'll hop into traditional wooden dhow boats and set sail, snorkelling in pristine reefs and swimming in the gorgeous waters at Kwale Island.
7. Snorkel with Turtles and Dolphins
Mnemba Island is amazing for a snorkel sesh. We'll explore coral reefs teeming with countless colourful fish and turtles. If we're lucky, we'll catch dolphins frolicking in the waves!
7. Trek Through a Jungle Forest
Jozani Forest Reserve is home to the rare red colobus monkeys. We'll trek through lush forests and spot these adorbs endangered primates swinging through the trees.
8. Enjoy an Ethical Turtle Encounter
Salaam Cave's eco-friendly conservation project rescues and rehabilitates turtles, and we can enjoy seeing these beautiful creatures up close and personal.
9. Kick Back on a Beachy Weekend Trip
Craving some R&R? Paje and Jambiani are the perfect spots to unplug and unwind. We'll swim in crystal-clear waters, feast on fresh seafood, and chillax to the max all weekend long.
10. Go on Safari in Tanzania
With the Big Five just a quick flight away, we'll head to either the Serengeti National Park or Ngorongoro Crater for an epic weekend trip filled with game drives and safari adventures!

Highlights
Zanzibar is calling! We're off to Tanzania's legendary Spice Island, and we can't wait for sea, sand, and chill time! We're setting up base in Kendwa, one of the stunning beachy pockets on Zanzibar's northwest coast.
Our coliving homes are two nearby properties, with newly renovated rooms and common spaces, both a short walk from gorgeous Kendwa Beach. All of the rooms across both properties have ensuite bathrooms and A/C (essential for those hot hot days!), and some rooms come with balconies, perfect for admiring the views!
Zanzibar's internet infrastructure is famously unreliable (hello island life!), but we've got a great solution! Every Triber gets 24/7 access to Hightide Coworks, a dedicated coworking hub with stable, always-on connectivity and numerous backup solutions specifically designed for remote workers. This means you'll have rock-solid WiFi when you need it, when you're away from our coliving homes, where connectivity can be spotty.
Our coliving homes have very limited kitchen facilities, so we've arranged something pretty cool: daily meal packages! For $15 per day (which works out to $420 for the month), you can get delicious dishes (adapted to any dietary needs) for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This removes the stress of cooking with limited facilities and lets you enjoy authentic local cuisine without the hassle. Totally optional, but highly recommended for the convenience (and deliciousness!).
Good to Know
You might want to rent a scooter or car to explore the island freely. Zanzibar isn't huge but distances between Stone Town, north beaches, and east coast can add up. That said, dala dalas (local minibuses) run regularly between major areas and are super cheap (though packed, and run on "island time"!). Having your own wheels gives you flexibility for beach hopping and adventures, and if we plan trips that are a distance away, we'll share rides.
Zanzibar is generally safe, though petty theft can happen in busy Stone Town markets and tourist areas. Standard travel awareness applies: watch your belongings, don't flash valuables, and avoid walking alone late at night in quieter areas.
Zanzibar is predominantly Muslim, so dress modestly and cover knees and shoulders, especially when in Stone Town and villages.
Expect temperatures around 25-30°C (77-86°F) with plenty of sunshine and minimal rain. Pack reef-safe sunscreen (protect those corals!), and mosquito repellent.
Kiswahili is the main language, with English widely spoken in tourist areas. Learning basic Kiswahili phrases (like "Jambo" hello, "Asante" thank you, "Hakuna matata" no worries) will win you major points!
The island moves at a relaxed pace. "Pole pole" (pronounced poh-lay poh-lay) means "slowly slowly" and it's basically the Kiswahili motto! Embrace and embody that relaxed, laid-back island life!
