Clifftop Homes. Seaside Views. Bohemian Culture.
Valparaiso, or Valpo as it’s commonly called, is as Bohemian and colorful as anywhere you’ll find. This charming city of a little over 300,000 people is home to historic buildings, trendy cafes, vibrant art, and a rich maritime history. Revel in the crazy architecture of this UNESCO World Heritage City while enjoying all the modern amenities of its contemporary landscape. No matter what you’re into, Valpo has something for everybody!
Stroll along its narrow streets. Climb its endless staircases. Ride its historic funicular elevators and take in panoramic views from scenic lookout points. Enjoying Valparaíso is less about touring specific sites than roaming the bustling, hilly streets and taking in the ambiance - including the stunning views from its many seaside cliffs.
The city is like an open-air museum, with art popping out from walls, corners, and parks. Take a visit to Alegre, Concepcion and Bellavista Hills to soak in all the magical outdoor flair.
Chilean food is much more than its famous sea bass dish. Fresh seafood from the coast of Valpo is incredible, but other must-trys include Chilean empanadas (perhaps the best empanadas in the world!), porotos granados, pastel de chocolo y humitas, churrasco and chacarero - and top everything with pebre, a hot chilli pepper sauce.
Experiencing Chile would not be complete without trying some of the world-renowned wine. And what better way to sample the local wares than to attend a wine tasting in a vineyard - while riding to the venue on horseback? It is quite the overall experience!
This chic little spot is everything that Valparaiso isn’t – orderly, high end, and slightly fancy. Enjoy Reñaca beach and relax in beautiful contrast to the city.
Why would anybody want to visit the driest place in the world outside the deepest polar regions? Because of its incomparable beauty, alien landscape, and the surreal feeling that you experience while walking in a desert so near to water - with none of it ever falling from the sky. The unique plants that exist here are able to grow because of water vapour carried directly from the ocean, making life possible in a place with less than ~1mm of rain per year. This landscape is truly incredible to experience!
