Quito calls us from its hiding place in the Andean peaks and who are we to refuse such an invitation?

In February 2019, we are going to be back in Ecuador for another round of South American flair and fun. This location is absolute perfection for nomads that are ready to get off the beaten track and experience a natural landscape that is both wild and beautiful. We’re already dreaming of the Galapagos, and the adventure hikes up the volcanoes.

Push past your limits in one of the world's most untouched places, with a wide range of adventures - from diving with seals, to white water rafting in the Amazon jungle, or mountain biking on Cotopaxi volcano - there’s no shortage of things to do in Ecuador!

Join us for an Amazonian Adventure

It was one of the best weekend trips we did last year and we can't wait to repeat it. Go with us on a hike through the rainforest, climb waterfalls, learn everything about the Tribes, Kayak with them down the river, optimise your survival skills and swing into the sunset.

Explore the Andean Highlands

Take a hike down the famous “Avenue of the Volcanoes” and find yourself surrounded by snow-capped peaks and emerald-green crater lakes. Visit colourful indigenous communities who continue the century-old traditions of their ancestors. Chat with local artisans at outdoor markets and take in the awe-inspiring scenery of patchwork fields with a backdrop of majestic mountains. For the thrill-seekers, there's plenty... Zip-lining, horseback riding, rafting, or 'simply' scaling one of Ecuador’s many volcanoes.

Bike & Swim On a Volcano

Bike down one of the world's tallest volcanos, Cotopaxi (4500m altitude), go for a breathtaking swing at the 'End of the World' in Baños, discover 60 majestic waterfalls, and finish this adventure off by taking a relaxing bath in one of the thermal sanctuaries.

Party and Surf like a Local

Love those beach vibes? Then Montañita is the place to be; streets and shores dotted with bars, clubs, and cabanas serving up the local brews. Indulge in the delicious street food, jive to latin guitar jams and experience your first beach party in the light of a full moon! During the day, take the opportunity to head out for some surf lessons in pretty waters.

South America's Mountain Biking Hotspot

With a strong local community of passionate riders, the country has an amazing mountain bike infrastructure. As you travel, you’re in the constant shadow of Mount Cotopaxi, riding past wild horses and bulls grazing on the altiplano. Need some adrenaline? Ecuador's got you covered!

The Galapagos Islands

Snorkel with sea lions, swim with penguins or dive with a group of hammer heads in one of the world's most biodiverse ecosystems. The Galapagos are an isolated group of volcanic islands, almost untouched by humans, where Darwin famously studied evolution.

Our homes will be a collection of spacious apartments, in the best possible location. We’ll be staying in between La Mariscal and La Floresta, a quiet area that benefits from being just a few steps from all the action. There are a couple of very distinct architectural styles as modern living meets a post-colonial vibe.

We wanted to experience the joys of both, so half the Tribe will be in the wonderfully classic post-colonial penthouse apartments, benefiting from incredible views on Cotopaxi. The other half, a few meters away, will be in modern apartments with clean lines, a minimalist vibe, and large bay windows overlooking the city of Quito.

In a Tribe first, two weeks later, we will be trading the hustle and bustle of Quito for Montanita, a beach town known for its perfect beaches, surf spots, and nightlife. We’ll all be on the same site and but split between five villas.

If you’d like to find out more about what it’s like to live in Quito as a ‘digital nomad’, including internet speeds, cost of living, and coworking spaces, have a look at Nomad List’s guide. The pace of digital nomad life is more relaxed here and although we do our best to have good WiFi in the apartments, consistent “up-time” can sometimes be an issue. With this in mind, we always have MiFi devices with mobile data as backups in all homes to make sure that we can keep working productively if there are any stability issues.

Here’s our approximate location to get a better idea of where we’ll be based:
