Istanbul

Turkey

Apr 22 - May 20, 2022

May 27 - June 24, 2022

No other city in the world straddles two continents and no where else is like Istanbul. History and tradition ooze from the city streets, the centuries-old mosques and ancient bazaars somehow mix seamlessly with our modern appetite for stylish cafes and vibrant nightlife. With fellow Tribers by our sides, we'll find navigating the language, culture, and labyrinth-like streets to be more manageable. This isn't a place that slows down and neither will we–once our day jobs are done, we'll be off exploring colorful neighborhoods, finding our new favorite kebab stall, hopping a ferry to the other side of the city, or haggling at the bazaar as we take in the scenes of living like locals.

Experience Istanbul with the Tribe

Take on Istanbul with the Tribe and discover a new side to the capital city. Open your mind to the cocreated community experiences, adventures, and classic WiFi Tribe moments that'll make our time here one of a kind.

Uncover the two sides of Istanbul, the meeting place of the East and West

There's a lot to see in Istanbul so we'll be strapping on our walking shoes to try to see it all. Visits to major historical sites like the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace will dot our afternoons and wandering through picturesque districts like Balat and Bebek will become our after work ritual. We'll also experience local traditions like classic Turkish baths (or hamams), barter at all of the buzzy bazaars, and take the public ferries to reach the European and Asian sides of the city.

Skip the city for a coastal town or two

The Black Sea will beckon us for weekend adventures, offering rugged coastlines with sandy beaches and small towns with a slower pace. Just over an hour from the city, both Şile and Kumköy (also known as Kilyos) are two coastal towns that have everything we love: long stretches of beaches, charming castles, hiking trails, and enough local restaurants to keep us satisfied.

Find peace and quiet at Princes' Islands

Istanbul will be a force for the senses, between the smells, sights, and sounds we won't get much of a reprieve inside the city. When we need a break, enter Princes' Islands. The 9 small islands are a ferry ride away and are where locals indulge in some peace and quiet. No cars are allowed on any of the islands so we'll explore by bike or foot and soak in the fresh sea air.

Bond as a Tribe when we get out into nature

Being on the coast doesn't mean we won't get out to greener pastures because Bursa and Yedigöller National Park are each 4 hours away. Bursa, sometimes called "Green Bursa" is easier to reach either by public bus or ferry and is home to the original Iskender kebab and many famous silk bazaars. Going the opposite way towards Bolu, Yedigöller National Park is known for the 7 small lakes that make up the park. While it takes more effort to get here, we can unplug for a weekend of camping, hiking, and taking one thousand photos (OK, we won't unplug all the way) of the incredible springtime greenery.

Highlights

Cihangir is a part of the Beyoğlu district and is a hipster, arty neighborhood that's well-known for its cafes and history. Outside of the general tourist districts but still connected to easily see everything, we'll be part of the local everyday life.

Our apartments range from one to six-bedroom setups across 3 buildings that are all within a 2-minute walk of each other.

Each apartment has its own wifi router, similar furnishings, fully stocked kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine and a furnished outdoor balcony or patio. Safe to say we'll be very comfortable coliving here.

The six-bedroom apartment will likely become our main hub for group gatherings because of the extra space and rooftop terrace with a large dining table.

Good to Know

April and May are the start of high season in Istanbul, and many property owners are keen to make up for lost tourism during the pandemic contributing to the Chapter price.

Take notice of the required conservative dress codes when visiting mosques and avoid taking photos of people at prayer.

Although Turkey is a predominantly Muslim nation, drinking alcohol is permitted. Though, like in many places, public intoxication is very frowned upon.

There's a thriving LGBTQIA+ scene in the Beyoğlu district, but we might encounter conservative views and attitudes around the city. Public affection in all relationships generally isn't the norm.
